8 September 2020 - This year turned out to be a meaningful National Day.
May session exams

I would like to share some very good news of our IGCSE results from the May exam session.

These results are based on school based grades and were subject to CAIE moderation. They are a reflection of the hard work from students over the last year and are in line with our results in these subjects from previous years.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students involved in these subjects and thank our staff for their diligence and support for our students.

CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Examinations) have confirmed that the November session of IGCSE will go ahead as planned.

Return to school

The secondary section is planning for ALL students to return to school from September 14th. More details will follow through the school family email next week. Please ensure you check your email accounts for these details.

TISKL (Secondary) celebrates National Day

28th August 2020 turned out to be a meaningful yet modest National Day celebration for students and teachers in the Secondary section. With the ongoing RMCO, we rose to the challenge of observing all the SOPs without compromising our aim to instill an awareness of patriotism as well as love towards our beloved nation.

Early in the morning, we welcomed students in their national attire into school, accompanied in the background with patriotic songs broadcasted through the school’s PA system. Later in the day, the cake cutting ceremony by Mr Peter Wells marked the occasion even more prominently. Mr Wells went on to put up his patriotic message on a notice board, surrounded by inspirational thoughts from students and teachers.

It was indeed a simple yet enriching day.
Happy Merdeka!

Fundemic Week

Fundemic Week was a project organised by the Student Councillors (spearheaded by the very capable Freida Foong of Year 10A) for the students of TISKL during the month of July. The event commenced on the 20th July 2020 and ended on the 24th July 2020.

Each day of that week, the Student Councillors had organised a different event, each event has been planned to cater to a variety of different skills and created with an aim to encourage and support students during this trying time as well as to stimulate the young brains of students in the Secondary Section.

Kickstarting the week with a creativity challenge was our first event ‘Doodle Mania’. In this event, the Student Councillors had decided to challenge the creativity of TISKL’s Secondary students and see them ‘doodle’ something fantastic out of an ordinary and unruly scribble (as attached below). The doodles sent were all extremely creative, it was a tough decision to make but after much deliberation and discussion with our honourable judges Mr Nazri and Pn Aina, we settled on 3 doodles that we thought deserved prizes for their appealingness as well as creativity. Crystal Ng Soo Sin (11A) deservingly grabbed the 1st place, the 2nd place went to Brandon Cheng Zi Chen (11T) and finally but certainly not least, the 3rd place was awarded to Gong Shien (8T). Their doodles blew us away, there’s definitely still some creativity in the students of TISKL for sure!

Our next event was Rubik’s. With Rubik’s, Student Councillors had aimed to establish friendly competition between students as well as encourage them to pick up new skills. Solving the Rubik’s cube has been shown to improve memory, problem-solving skills and, besides that, it’s also a great bragging right for some - who wouldn’t want to tell their friends that they could solve a rubik’s cube in a short time! The winner was selected based on how fast they could solve a 3 by 3 cube. Emerging victorious was Ferryn Foong from Year 7T who solved a Rubik’s cube in just under 12 seconds, 11.6 to be exact!

Next came Wednesday, the sleepy day of the week, Student Councillors decided to jog students' minds awake with a fun math teaser. The Counting Mania team worked together to design our very own unique math puzzle which we put out that very morning for the students to attempt. It was an indeed satisfying and interesting way to see how students attempted to solve the puzzles and we’re glad 2 winners emerged victorious! They are Shawn Loh Zi Xian and Stanley Tan Zhi Wei, and both of them hail from Year 7A.

Of course, after every math teaser there has to be an English riddle! Riddle Me occurred on Thursday morning, there were four levels of riddles, each with increasing difficulty that left even Student Councillors themselves boggled! Students continued to amaze us as they managed to answer the riddles correctly, the winners are Sonia (7S), Stanley Tan Zhi Wei (7A) and Shawn Loh Zi Xian (7A).

Finally, the Student Councillors decided to end off the week with an ‘Odd One Out’ event that tested the sharp eyes of students as they attempted to spot as many differences as possible between 4 pictures. After much scrutiny, 3 winners emerged victorious thanks to their sharp eyes. They are; Nachammai (8T), Ferryn Foong (7T) and Shawn Loh Zi Xian (7A).

And that was Fundemic Week in a nutshell! Once again, the Student Councillors would like to say a huge congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who have supported and participated in our event. It was extremely fun to see students participating during Fundemic Week as our purpose was to incorporate fun into the main-stream academic during this MCO period.

Until next time!
