Essential English Programme

TIS Essential English Programme is for students aged 10-13 years old (Year 5 to Year 8). This programme aims to equip students with the essential English language skills for International School success. It is designed to increase students’ confidence and proficiency in English by enhancing their skills in four key areas: speaking, reading, writing and listening.

How is it delivered?

Students will be attending intensive English classes. English in the classroom activities will be taught to small groups of students in a positive and inclusive learning environment, by dedicated teachers who are specially trained in teaching English as a Second Language.

Students will be assessed to determine their initial English language level, which will be regularly reviewed through careful monitoring of progress. These students will also be entered for the world-renowned Cambridge Assessment English Tests to benchmark their language skills against external standards.

Transition into the Mainstream

When a student’s English is at a competent level to access the whole curriculum, they will be transferred to a mainstream class.

During the Programme, students will be attending mainstream classes for PE, Art and Music (Primary students), or PE, Drama, Art and Music (for Secondary students), thereby integrating academically and socially into the school in preparation for the transition to mainstream classes.
