In our final week we have won yet another championship, this time at Alice Smith International School and hosted a preparation match for our Volleyball under 15 and 16 girls. We have also been reflecting on how much we have managed to put TIS Puchong on the sporting map to a greater level in the first few months of this year.

This weekend we travelled to Alice Smith International School to compete on both Saturday and Sunday for Football under 9 and 11 boys and girls. Saturday was the turn of the under 9’s. Both teams got off to identical starts, winning 2 matches out of 3. Our boys played excellently, beating Alice Smith in their final group game but losing out on a place in the final on goal difference by just one goal. The girls tried hard but lost out on a place in the cup medal places by one place, playing some great football but not being able to win some close matches.

The under 11 tournament on Sunday turned out to be a very entertaining affair. Our girls got off to an excellent start, winning all 3 of their initial matches. Both teams then played Alice Smith International School, with the girls beating them convincingly to take the championship trophy home with us! A great attempt from our girls, meaning they have won an Alice Smith invitational tournament trophy two years in a row. The boys lost 1-0 but went onto beat ELC International School in the quarter-finals 5-0 to set up an exciting match with British International School. The game was extremely close, with chances at either end, but it was our opposition that ended up winning 2-0. A great occasion for everyone involved and a tournament that we look forward to each year.

On Monday our Volleyball under 15 and 16 girls hosted HELP International School in a preparation match. Both teams started slow but our girls eventually shook off the nerves and performed excellently, winning with a large margin of 7-1. Both teams have their KLISS and KL Sports League tournaments during term 2 and these matches will stand them in good stead.

This year so far has produced some magical moments. We have seen incredible success trophy-wise this year so far, winning an unimaginable 10 of the overall 22 championships in our history (that is nearly half!). We have entered more teams in KLISS, KL Sports League and MSSD than ever before, which we as a department are very proud of. As well as this, as Mr Stefano highlighted in last week’s newsletter, we have had record amounts of students take part in sport. A huge thank you must go to you, the parents, for your continued support and constructive communication with me throughout the term. The students have been also magnificent this term, showing commitment and a great attitude throughout the course of our record breaking term. My coaches have worked so hard, training before school, lunchtimes and after school, as well as some weekend trainings to ensure our players are in the right mental and physical state to compete in these tough competitions. We also say goodbye to our intern Adrian Leong, a former student who has been a fantastic addition to the team this term - coaching, refereeing and teaching when called upon to do so. He will be missed by all. Overall, I could not be happier with the progress and direction the school and department is going in.

As we look into next term, the main sports we will be competing in are Volleyball, Teeball, Swimming, Badminton and Netball. We also have a brand new sport called ‘Hi5 Volleyball’ which is played solely for the under 11 category. As well as this we will be having trials for Football, Benchball and Basketball teams during the months of May and June. Please keep up with trial information through the Instagram account (taylors.lightning), poster on the PE newsboard, announcements at assemblies and REMIND (for primary parents). If we can achieve half the success we have delivered this term then we will be happy! I wish you a peaceful and enjoyable break and I very much look forward to seeing what is to come in the following months..
