7 OCTOBER 2019 - MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY
21st CHUO International Forum 2019
Taylor's International School (KL) participated in the 21st CHUO International Forum 2019 which was held in Morioka, Japan from the 25th August till 2nd September 2019. The school was represented by two students of Year 10, Michelle Lee Shu Ling and Zayn Zarik. They were accompanied by Ms Sheela.

Nineteen schools from 16 countries all over the world participated in this event. Each participating student stayed with a local host family to experience the Japanese culture and tradition.

The theme of the Forum was:

"Think Globally and Act Locally"
Transforming our world using the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)

Discussion topics for the students during the Forum were :
1) Aging Society
2) Child Poverty
3) Women's participation in Society

The students had group discussions and presented their findings and solutions of the problems globally and what can be done as a citizen of a nation in one’s local community.

During the Forum, the teachers had a Round Table Discussion of the current issue in education. The title of the discussion was:

Ideal School that can Prepare Young People for the World of Tomorrow.
"Need to move away from Industrial Age"

Teachers shared the strategies which were used in their schools and what changes can be done in the curriculum itself to move towards an Ideal School of Tomorrow.

The 21st Chuo International Forum 2019 was a success as a whole in bringing together students and teachers of different cultures and backgrounds to discuss common problems faced globally.
Exciting opportunity for next year's Yr10/11 students
University College London (UCL) is offering an exciting summer internship programme for 15-18 years old next August, 2020.

The Young Engineer Summer Internship is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for aspiring engineers to undertake the work experience of their dreams in London. Over the course of 10 days, students aged 15-18 will have some of the most prestigious experiences of engineering that one can imagine: experience-days at the Airbus ExoMars facility and Jaguar Land Rover and an Engineering 'Supercar' trip to Lamborghini and Pagani in Italy.

Merdeka Celebrations at School Level
The Merdeka Celebrations were organised by the Guidance Unit with a string of interesting and fun activities. On the first day of the third term, the 26th August 2019, many classes jumped on the opportunity to set up a patriotic atmosphere in the classroom, displaying the beautiful Malaysian flag.

By the end of the week, on Friday morning, all the Secondary and Primary students were proudly parading in the National costumes and marching to the rhythm of patriotic songs. Our students enacted the parade and showcased some placards to voice their messages.

At the school hall, students were entertained with various presentations, with the highlight being the fashion parade. Judging from the teachers' participation, it clearly resonated with the spirit of togetherness and unity. Besides that, each day, students-in-charge put up messages from TISKL community and saw the rise of speakers who presented their views through the Speaker's Corner. Year 9 and Year 10 students put up displays on Independence Day for visitors.

Putting together the giant Malaysian flag was deemed the most challenging as it was the first project launched by the Guidance Unit to show our love for our nation. Armed with colourful ribbons, students and teachers diligently weaved the flag, measuring 24 feet in length and almost 5 feet in width. A parade to launch the putting up of the flag was officially done on 6th September, with support from TISKL community.

Our pride, our joy, our legacy, our Malaysia.
