18 March 2020 - During this period of closure, we urge you to exercise calm, patience and cooperation.

Primary Student Council 2020

The recently elected student council members gathered for photos in the courtyard. A few were absent on that day. Pictured here are the Year Group representatives: Kyan and Kelly (Y3); Gong Jay and Eva (Y4); Umar and Leia (Y5) and Sreejay and Aarini (Y6). They will carry information to and from the primary leadership team. Shreejay has already been proactive as a senior student in the Primary Student Council and called for a meeting with all Year 6 class representatives, Mr Graeme and me. He chaired the meeting, offering each an opportunity to state what their aims were for changes or improvements in 2020. What a great start to this cohort of student leaders! See the gallery for more photos.

Collaborative Learning

It is a familiar sight in the classroom, to see groups of students huddled around some resources or shared tasks. Working with others helps to build communication, cooperation and reflective skills as well as teaching students how to respect the opinions of others, share knowledge and be a key member of a team.

The same can be said for teachers who regularly collaborate in planning meetings, training sessions and workshops. Due to the sudden closure of the school, Early Years and Primary teachers spent time together, working on the logistics of sharing online lessons. The first venture into Face-to-Face video conferencing with students will happen next week. Year 6 class teachers will meet daily via Google Hangouts to support the learning at home. Should the government extend the closure, other year groups may follow. For now, learning tasks and feedback will be sent through Google Classroom, Google Sites and email.

Mindful Learning

During this period of closure, we urge you to exercise calm, patience and cooperation as the whole country faces the disruption caused by COVID-19.
As educators, we would far rather have the schools open, but these measures are out of our control. At the same time, we appreciate that parents and students will be frustrated and, with that in mind, we will also address everyone’s wellbeing. Our aim is to make this experience as joyful, meaningful and challenging as possible.

Stay safe and keep on learning!
