30 July 2021 - We have reached the end of term 2.

We have reached the end of term, phew!
This term has been very challenging, and I would like to praise the students and the teachers for the really positive way that they tackled the learning from home.

There has been a lot of great learning in all areas of the school. This has been hard but it will be worth it in the long run. Academic learning is very important, especially as campus closures due to the pandemic have been extended. We await to see whether the 1st September is when the campus can start to reopen.

At the same time, we do need to acknowledge the huge importance of well being upon all of us. With the school holidays fast approaching, even though we cannot go anywhere, I hope that students and teachers can get away from their screens and relax. Try something new but please follow the SoPs. The numbers of positive cases are increasing dramatically and we can all do our part to reduce this by staying at home.

A reminder to parents that My Sejahtera is now open for registration of children between 12 and 17.

Remembering departed teachers
Last week we had the sad news that Mr. Iskhandar had suddenly passed away.
For over 20 years Iskhandar was a very well liked and respected member of the Secondary school He was a pillar of the school, and his passion and dedication was evident for all to see. He will be greatly missed.

We have also just received sad news of Puan Sabariah’s passing. This has been a big shock for the Primary school, where Sabariah has been a BM teacher for 27 years. She was a quiet, but very positive teacher, who had some health issues in the last few years. Her bright and smiling persona will be greatly missed.

Many thanks to the school community for their support in these trying times.
Please remember the families of these two beloved teachers in your thoughts.

Leavers
The end of term also means that we have a few teachers leaving the school.
Please take the opportunity to contact these teachers, to wish them all the best.

Lynne Cadenhead - I have written to you about Lynne retiring earlier in the term, but I will take this opportunity to thank her again publicly for everything she has done for the Primary school in particular but also for the development of TISKL in general. Lynne’s influence is everywhere in the Primary school. She leaves us after nearly ten years with the school to start relaxing and taking life easy back in Scotland.

Emma Rooney- Miss Emma joined the Secondary school 7 years ago in the English team, as Head fo English. A role that she did very successfully expanding peoples view of English into literature and poetry She will be remembered for bringing ‘Slam Poetry’ to the school. Her passion for education was obvious and she moved to the position of Assistant Head in Secondary and in this role worked hard behind the scenes in areas such as reporting and assessment, and also with CCAs. Ms Emma is moving to take a Head of Secondary role in Bahrain.

Chris Ratcliffe - Chris came to TISKL 7 years ago. He then put into place a plan to put TSKL on the map of international schools sport in KL. He instigated the school joining KLISS and KLSL amongst others and the proof of the school’s success can be seen with the banners in the sports hall, or should I say ‘Thunderdome’. His influence on sport in the school has been immense, and I wish him and his family all the best as they move to Europe.

Puan Fazilah - After over 21 years with this school, Puan Fazilah is leaving to take up a more relaxed lifestyle. She is an IT teacher in the Primary school and has helped the students expand their IT skills into other traditional subjects. Her bright and happy approach put everyone at ease.

Gan Hock Kiam - Mr Gan joined the Secondary Science team over 11 years ago. As a Physics teacher, he is a rare teacher, but Gan brought his own very successful style of teaching the subject to this school. Good luck to Gan as he moves back to the family business.

Sarveswaran - A relative newcomer to the PE team, Sarveas has put his enthusiasm for sport where everyone can see in the last two years, and it is such a shame that the pandemic has stopped all inter school sports and limited what can be done online.

Next term, you will be able to meet the new teachers that come into the school to take over these roles.

We also have some student leavers on Friday. I would like to wish them all the best in the new schools that they go to, and I hope that they take with them fond memories of life and friends at TISKL.

We are back to school on Monday 23rd August, initially online.

Stay safe everyone.

Peter Wells
