At Taylor’s International School Kuala Lumpur (TISKL), preparing students for the future goes beyond academic achievement. It means helping them develop empathy, confidence and respect for others—qualities that are just as important as academic success.

That’s what Diversity Week is all about.

Across Early Years, Primary and Secondary, students explored different cultures, perspectives and lived experiences through engaging activities that celebrated inclusion, kindness and community. From sensory experiences to cultural celebrations, every activity reflected TISKL’s Raise Them Ready philosophy, helping students build the character and compassion they’ll carry with them for life.

“Diversity Week gives students meaningful opportunities to appreciate differences and practise kindness, empathy and respect. It reflects TISKL’s Raise Them Ready approach, where education goes beyond academics to nurture students’ social and emotional growth.” – Ms Daniela, Head of Curriculum Support

Learning Through Different Perspectives

The week began with interactive assemblies delivered by the Early Autism Project, introducing students to different ways people may experience, communicate and interact with the world. These sessions encouraged students to better understand neurodiversity while highlighting the importance of patience, inclusion and kindness in everyday life.

Primary students also participated in sensory-based activities that challenged them to experience the world from different perspectives. Through hands-on learning and guided reflection, they explored how empathy and understanding can strengthen relationships and create a more inclusive school community.

“My favourite part was learning about the effects of essential oils from Hugo at Care2Run. It helped me understand how different people can share meaningful experiences with us.” – WenXi, Year 6 student

Celebrating Culture and Community

One of the highlights of Diversity Week was Flavours of TISKL, where families shared dishes from around the world, giving students the opportunity to experience different cultures through food, conversation and community.

“I loved trying food from different countries. It was fun to taste something new and learn about the cultures in our school community.” – Sehejh, Year 4 student

Students also explored identity and self-expression through creative art activities that celebrated individuality while reinforcing the value of belonging. The week concluded with a colourful non-uniform day supporting charity, reminding students that kindness is something to be lived, not simply discussed.

Preparing Global Citizens

In today’s interconnected world, students benefit from learning alongside classmates from different cultures, backgrounds and experiences. Diversity Week helps students develop intercultural understanding, empathy and respect—essential skills for success at university, in future careers and as responsible global citizens.

These experiences also support students’ social and emotional wellbeing, encouraging them to become confident individuals who value different perspectives and contribute positively to the communities around them.

Raising Students Ready for Life

At TISKL, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Through experiences like Diversity Week, students develop the confidence, compassion and global mindset to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

This is what it means to Raise Them Ready—nurturing young people who are academically capable, socially responsible and ready to make a positive difference wherever life takes them.

Families who would like to experience the TISKL community firsthand are warmly invited to Book a Tour and discover how we Raise Them Ready.
