TIS students will be given core training in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia from Early Years up to Secondary. We believe a strong foundation in these three languages will provide our students with a competitive edge in the global stage.
English
English is the main medium of instruction across all levels in TIS. We benchmark against international standards by following the National Curriculum of England.
For IGCSE, English comes in three independent courses. (i.e. English Literature, English as a First Language, English as a Second Language.) These examinations are internationally accepted and recognised by more than 500 universities worldwide.
Mandarin
With China's growing economic power, there is now a stronger demand for individuals who are proficient in Mandarin.
Students are required to study Mandarin from Early Years to Secondary School. They may select Mandarin as an elective paper for their IGCSE examination (i.e. Mandarin as a First Language, Second Language or Foreign Language). Optionally, students may also opt to study for the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi; or also known as Chinese Proficiency Test). HSK is China’s only standardized tests for Chinese, and are recognized worldwide.
Bahasa Malaysia
Bahasa Malaysia is compulsory for all Malaysian students. It is taught at two levels: The intermediate classes and basic classes for different levels of proficiency. Students may take IGCSE Malay as a Foreign Language. From Year 2020 onwards, the option to take IGCSE Malay as First Language will be offered as well.
The aim is for students to have the ability to use the language effectively for practical communication in our society.
