At Taylor’s International School Puchong (TISPC), the Secondary STEAM Fair showcased how STEAM education empowers Key Stage 3 students to apply their learning to real-world environmental challenges. Centred on the theme Future Link: Sustainable Living, students developed innovative solutions while strengthening the critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Bringing STEAM Learning to Life
The Secondary STEAM Fair transformed the school into a vibrant showcase of innovation, where Key Stage 3 students confidently presented creative solutions to real-world sustainability challenges. Inspired by the theme Future Link: Sustainable Living, each exhibition stand reflected months of research, collaboration and problem-solving.

Throughout the morning, parents, Primary students and guests explored the displays, interacted with the student exhibitors and discovered how STEAM learning empowers young people to turn ideas into practical solutions with real-world impact.
Applying Design Thinking to Real-World Challenges
The Secondary STEAM Fair was the culmination of a cross-curricular challenge that involved every Key Stage 3 student. As part of the Science curriculum and the school’s wider project-based learning approach, Year 7, 8, and 9 students investigated the impact of a global energy crisis on local communities before developing practical, evidence-based solutions.
Using the Design Thinking process, students researched the issue, generated ideas, built prototypes and refined their concepts by applying knowledge from Science, Mathematics and ICT. During STEAM Week, each team presented its solution to teacher panels, with the strongest projects progressing to the final showcase.

Explaining the thinking behind the STEAM Fair, Head of Secondary Ryan Peet said, “We host our STEAM Fair to spark curiosity, foster innovation and empower students to tackle real-world challenges through creative problem-solving. This year’s showcase highlighted the incredible talent, dedication and ingenuity of our Secondary students as they transformed classroom learning into practical solutions for a more sustainable future.”
The experience strengthened students’ critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills as they researched, tested and refined practical solutions. Through Design Thinking and Project-Based Learning, they gained the confidence to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, preparing them to become future-ready learners.
Inspiring the Wider School Community
The Secondary STEAM Fair also inspired the wider school community.
Primary students visited the exhibition during scheduled sessions and break times, where they explored the displays, interacted with their senior peers and discovered how STEAM can be used to create innovative solutions for a more sustainable future. These conversations sparked curiosity while strengthening connections across different year groups.

Parents likewise gained a deeper appreciation of the research, creativity and teamwork behind each project, as students confidently explained their ideas and the thinking process that shaped their solutions.
Celebrating Student Achievement
Student projects were evaluated throughout the morning by a panel of judges who visited each exhibition stand, assessing the creativity, research, teamwork and practical application demonstrated by every group.

The school was honoured to welcome guest judges Dr Siroshini from Taylor’s University and Senior Lecturer Ms Phua Lih from Taylor’s College, whose expertise provided valuable encouragement and authentic industry perspectives for the students.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals to the winning teams from each year group, recognising their creativity, collaboration and innovative thinking.
