25 March 2022 - Managing SOPs

Dear Parents and Guardians

This week has been a good week in terms of COVID and SoPs.

Since last Sunday we have had nine student positive cases and a teacher. Which is quite a drop from previous weeks where 4 weeks ago our total weekly numbers were in the mid 30’s.
I hope that we can all work together to follow the SoPs and then these positive case numbers will continue to drop. Last week, we had a day with zero positive cases, which is something to celebrate.

Thank you to parents for being proactive and telling the school about the positive cases. Unfortunately this does mean on occasion that the school is passing this information to close contact parents in the morning of the isolation. Our apologies but this shows that COVID doesn't respect evenings or weekends, and so please continue to monitor your email regularly.

The close contact advice and SoP from the Ministry has not really changed for students, and all revolves around mask wearing and proximity to others. For younger children who are in the same class all day and who also eat together, it is easy to see that whole classes are often close contacts. For older students, we are now being more detailed with the contact tracing, and we are finding that close contacts are coming mainly from eating together. Please ask your child to be particularly careful when eating.

Please remember to give your child a self test on Sunday evening / Monday morning, in preparation for classes on Monday.

You will now be aware that the SoPs for CCA and ECA have been changed, which is really good for student activities. For CCA, teachers can have more activities on the school campus. This is allowing us to have more sporting activities and inter house events. We are actively setting up an ECA programme for Term 2. We will be sending information to parents and students soon to get this all started.

Finally, please do not forget that Saturday 26th March at 8.30 is Earth hour.
This is a great way of explaining to your child the importance of respecting and saving our planet from further damage. Care for our environment is really important as this affects all of us. On Thursday, we initiated the first Eco Heroes in the Primary school. Congratulations to those students and I look forward to their ideas to help TISKL respect our planet. It is up to ALL of us to take action before it is too late.

Stay safe
