2022 IGCSE Scholarship Awardees

Taylor’s International School (TIS) has awarded IGCSE scholarship to three outstanding students in 2022 at its Kuala Lumpur and Puchong campuses. Chosen through a rigorous process, these students showed excellent academic achievements, leadership abilities, and co-curricular involvement.

We had the opportunity to have a quick chat with Joanne Lee Wen Ai, Year 10 (TIS Puchong), Alexander Yong Xiaming, Year 10 (TIS Puchong), and Chadwyck See Yue Shen, Year 10 (TIS Kuala Lumpur).

How do you feel about being awarded this scholarship?

Joanne: It was nothing short of pure shock and happiness when I received the news. Being given this rare opportunity to reach new heights with TIS has definitely expanded my vision towards the even greater possibilities of tomorrow. I feel very grateful for this chance and it has encouraged me to strive for excellence in everything I do.

Alexander: I felt really happy and surprised that I had received this scholarship because out of so many people I was chosen to receive this scholarship. I was also very excited to go to a new school and new environment considering I was always in a government school.

Chadwyck: After receiving the TIS scholarship in 2020, I feel that it is a great opportunity to continue what I have started in this school and carry on to my IGCSE’s. When I received the news about being awarded the IGCSE Scholarship, it felt like I was on top of the world. TIS is arguably one of the most prestigious schools in Malaysia, and it is a great privilege to be given the chance to further pursue my education in such a school. With the facilities and assistance here, I can grow and develop my skills before entering society.

So far, how was your experience studying in TIS?

Joanne: If anything, my experience in TIS has been better than what I expected. The teachers and my peers have been very welcoming and the classrooms create positive environments for learning. The teachers have made even the most complex of topics understandable from a student’s point of view, taking into account every student’s different opinion. This goes to show that they truly care about our viewpoints on the lesson. My overall opinion has been very positive, and I continue to look forward to every day of learning with TIS.

How do the learning methodology and environment in TIS help you to excel in your studies?

Chadwyck: The environment is one of the best qualities at TIS in my opinion, with some of the best and most helpful teachers out there. During these two years, I was blessed with meeting such amazing people, even if a portion of it was spent online, and I’m looking forward to interacting more with everyone, now that I’m back in school physically. Teachers of TIS will always find time to respond to any enquiries you have, or anything you need help with. With the support and encouragement of our experienced teachers, I can truly excel to reach my full potential.

What are the factors that attracted you to TIS?

Alexander: I am attracted to the facilities of this school, for example the sports complex and the big auditorium. I am also interested to experience the Quantum Learning methodology that the school facilitates.

What are your goals that you would like to achieve and how do you plan to continuously improve yourself?

Joanne: Personally, the ultimate goal that I would like to achieve in TIS is more self-discovery. I think it goes for every student when I say we are still figuring out who we are. For example, I take great interest in Performing Arts, and through TIS, I hope I get the opportunity to learn more about that part of my life. Interests can change with time, and the school understands that, ensuring that there is a space for every hobby and interest.

Alexander: I would like to participate in more Badminton competitions as a school representative once the pandemic situation gets better. Of course, I would like to continue achieving excellent results in my studies, especially in the IGCSE examination next year.

Chadwyck: I have been training myself to keep a more reasonable school and personal life balance. Aside from academics, I have joined multiple clubs, like the Student Council, the Yearbook Club, the School Orchestra, etc. I am looking forward to participating in more school activities and clubs. In my free time, I still like to paint and draw, while also maintaining some form of physical activity to stay healthy.
