19 JULY 2019 - MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parent,

Last Friday we finished with the Options Day for Year 9s, which was very well attended, and this Friday we have the PTCs for Secondary, and already teachers' calendars are booked, which is a healthy sign. As I have stepped in to teach some History classes, my calendar is now filled with bookings throughout the day and I am looking forward to meeting the parents of the students I teach.

This has been Report Week and many have gone home throughout the last seven days or so. Year 6 had another day of transition experience in Secondary. This is another opportunity to experience time in Secondary so that when they finally get there the 'shock of a new culture' is lessened. They even had lunch with Secondary students and I am told that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Meanwhile in Secondary, teachers have been busy marking the mock exams. Mock exams serve two purposes: one is to take a snapshot, a temperature reading if you like, of where students are and is a good diagnostic to focus on the areas that students may be weak on. The second purpose is that it gives them practice in exam conditions and gets them to think about timing and the need to be organised and plan their answers. I know that many exam questions are done in class but this is not the same as exam conditions and therefore it is good that they experience this in preparation for the real exams in late October.

This weekend sees our second venture at the Model United Nations (MUN), where our team of ambassadors will be travelling to Nexus International School Malaysia for an inter-school meeting. I wish them the very best. We are a young but enthusiastic group in terms of MUN.

Lastly to let you know that TIS Puchong has won another architectural award, this time the PAM award. I gratefully receive the accolade and I am proud to be working here.

A reminder please to please bring your tag and wear it in school. It is part of a very important procedure to ensure safety. If you do forget your tag you must have some form of identification as well. It is part of the guard's duty to check this so please bear with them as they are only doing their job to protect all our children.

Thank you and have a great week ahead.

Kind regards
Stefano Piumatti
